Fairfax County General District Court now offers citizens and visitors the opportunity to prepay speeding tickets and similar offenses via the Internet. Most traffic tickets and some criminal violations can be paid before the assigned court date so that people will not even need to appear in court. Prepaying saves a trip and saves time. There are no additional costs or fees for online payment.

The Internet payment option is part of a statewide online service resulting from a unique intergovernmental partnership between the Supreme Court of Virginia, the Virginia Information Providers Network (VIPNet) and the Fairfax County General District Court. To pay using the Internet, go to www.courts.state.va.us and click on General District Court Case Information and follow the instructions. Payment can be made via the Internet once the ticket information has been entered into the system (approximately two weeks after the traffic stop) and up until 4 p.m. the day before the court date.

Other prepayment methods include paying by phone, mail or in person.
To pay using the court’s automated phone system, residents can call the Traffic Division at 703-246-3764 or the Criminal Division at 703-691-7320 (TTY for both is 703-934-1296), and pay by credit card between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. Phone payments must be made two days prior to the court date.

Checks and money orders can be mailed to Fairfax County General District Court, Attention Traffic (or Criminal) Division, 4110 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, VA 22030. Mailed payments can also be made by credit card using a credit card payment form which can be downloaded at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/courts/gendist. Payments by mail must be received at least five days before the court date. A copy of the ticket should be included with the payment to ensure that the correct fine is credited.

Payments can be made in person between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Traffic tickets need to be paid at the clerk’s office, located on the first floor of the Judicial Center (Room 176). Criminal violation payments are paid on the second floor (Room 239). Payment in person must be made two days prior to the court date.

Not all fines can be prepaid. Some offenses, such as reckless driving and driving on a suspended license, require a court appearance. Also, certain offenses, such as failure to maintain proper control and failure to pay time and attention, are prepayable but are not accepted for prepayment over the Internet. They can be paid using the automated phone system, through the mail or in person.
